Roulette Odds Green
There is a strong element of chance to any game of roulette but, as any seasoned player will tell you, it always helps your chances to have some kind of strategy when you play. Here, we explain two of the most popular roulette strategies: the double zero and the single green. If you want to learn what these strategies are, why people choose them, and what chance of winning they give you, then simply read on!
What is the Double Zero Pay Out?
Favorable roulette odds make this an attractive bet, but it’s important to remember about those green 0 and 00 pockets. This gives the house a big advantage. High or Low Bet A high or low bet (1:1) covers half of the numbers on the roulette wheel.
The double zero is a type of bet that you can only make with American roulette boards. European roulette boards have numbers into the thirties, and also a single zero. American roulette boards, however, as well as all of these numbers and the single zero, also have a double zero on them.
- Roulette odds provide you with the information you need to know how likely you are to win any bet. There are many different bets available on a roulette table, and each one has its own odds. These range from even money bets that pay off nearly half the time, to single number bets that are hard to hit, but which will earn you a lot of money when.
- The roulette odds on red or black is another even bet. You simply pick the color you think will win and earn your winnings. The house edges are the same as the column bet. The roulette odds on green are different because this only applies to 0 (or 00 if you are playing the American version).
- The zero pocket on the roulette wheel is on nobody’s Christmas list because if the ball lands on it, everyone else loses their money. NFL Odds Super Bowl NFL Futures Bets How to Bet The Super Bowl Super Bowl Betting Trends Bet Now.
So, if you are playing on an American roulette board, you can place a bet on this double zero. Another version of this bet is to bet on both the double zero and the single zero at the same time.
Some roulette players like to spread their bets out further, betting on the double zero but also betting at the same time on various other numbers on the board. This can increase your chance of a hit, but the payoffs are smaller if one of your numbers does get hit. It can be so frustrating to spread your bets out across the board and then see the double zero get hit – if only you had bet everything on the double zero, you would have got a much larger payoff!
What is the Single Green Pay Out?
The color of the double zero on the roulette board is green. The color of the single zero is also green. Thus, the double zero is sometimes referred to as the ‘double green’ whilst the single zero is sometimes referred to as the ‘single green’.
When you bet on single green odds, you bet on this single zero. The hope is that the single zero will be hit! Again, it is also possible to bet on other numbers at the same time as the single green. Though, again, it is also frustrating when you spread your bets out like this only to see the single green get hit. If only you had betted entirely on single green odds at moments like this – you would be enjoying a much higher amount of winnings!
Why do People Choose to Bet on Double Zero and Single Green Odds?
The double zero and the single green are what give the house the edge over the players. A European board (which has just one single green zero) has a house advantage of around 2.7%, whilst on an American board (which has both double and single green zeros) the house has an advantage of around 5.6%. As such, the single and double zeros have become the focal point for roulette players who are interested in beating the house.
The popularity of betting on double zero and single green odds could just be because these zeros are clear indications of house advantage, and so the roulette player sees them as particularly significant squares to bet on! Choosing concrete strategies like these gives you an obvious method for playing roulette and stops you from feeling that you are simply betting at random.
Is betting on double zero and single green odds simply all a psychological phenomenon that gives you no tangible advantage? Perhaps. Read on to find out what the mathematical probabilities of winning when you use these betting strategies are.
Probabilities of Hitting with These Odds.
It is obvious that you have a slightly higher probability of hitting with a European roulette board, simply because there is no double zero and thus there are fewer slots in total on the board. However, when you bet on the double zero you have pretty good odds.
If you bet on the double zero, you have odds of 35 to 1. However, if you bet on both the double and the single zero at the same time, your odds rise to 18 to 1.
So, though the American board has the advantage of enabling you to bet on both green squares at once (with good odds of getting a hit), the European board offers you overall higher odds that you will get a hit on any given square.
PlayRoulette.org » For Dummies »How many times in a row has a little ball landed in the same pocket of a Roulette wheel, i.e. how many times has a single number occurred in a row? And how about the same color? What is the probability of these events and a potential impact on a play?
Record Occurrence of a Single Number in Roulette
The probability that any single number occurs is 1/37 in French Roulette and 1/38 in American Roulette (there are 36 numbers + zero + double zero in American Roulette). There is no doubt that it is a great coincidence when the same number comes up again and again.
The longest reliable series was registered at the hotel El San Chuan in Puerto Rico on 9 June 1959. During the course of the American Roulette, number ten occurred even six times in a row! The probability of such (successive) events is determined by a multiplication of individual events. Therefore the probability that the same number comes up six times in a row is:
(1/38) ˟ (1/38) ˟ (1/38) ˟ (1/38) ˟ (1/38) ˟ (1/38)
, that is:

(1/38)6 = 0.000000000332122593261671
.
That is a very small number indeed, roughly three billionths only. If we convert this probability into true odds that would have to be offered to us by a casino, we get the value 3,010,936,384 to one
. The true (fair) odds are calculated as a reciprocal of the probability, that is 1 ÷ probability. If such a bet on a series of outcomes was possible in Roulette, we would win $3 billion for a $1 bet(!)

It is important to add that the above-mentioned calculation of probability deals with a multiple (successive) events, i.e. we can ask this question: What is the probability that the same number in Roulette comes up 6 times in a row?
Since it would be a different case if e.g. number 10 occurred and after that before the new spin we asked what was the probability that number ten came up again? In this case the answer would be 1/38 (in terms of American Roulette), because any number could occur with the same probability 1/38 in every new spin. That is what we call a simple event in contrast with a multiple event(s) whereas the probabilities of individual events are multiplied (→ Articles on Probability).
The true odds for a 1 to 10fold repetition of the same number are shown in the table below. It is the same mechanism as if a sporting bet company or a casino offered the odds for a victory of some home team in some football match (→ The Odds Determination and Calculation).

The Same Number Comes Up in a Row | True Odds to One in FRENCH Roulette | True Odds to One in AMERICAN Roulette |
---|---|---|

10˟ | 4,808,584,372,417,850 | 6,278,211,847,988,230 |
The odds are reciprocal values of the probabilities – the higher they are, the lower the probabilities are. The case of the above-mentioned record series is marked green. Consider also the difference that is made by one extra number in American Roulette (the double zero).

Record Repetition of the Same Color in Roulette
There are no exceptions that the same color appeared more than 20 times in a row in practice. The record was registered in 1943, when red color came up 32 times in a row! The probability of such event in French Roulette is (18/37)32 = 0.000000000096886885
with the corresponding odds 10,321,314,387:1
.
The probability of the 32fold repetition of the same color in American Roulette is much more lower: (18/38)32 = 0.00000000004127100756
and the odds are 24,230,084,485:1
. Thus this is even less likely than occurrence of a single number six times in a row. Again it is clearly demonstrated what kind of importance (a negative one for players) has just one extra number in American Roulette.
